I like to refer to newborn photography as a relaxing challenge. For everyone who has seen a photography session with a newborn they know it is not lay the baby down and click. There is so much more put into newborn photography sessions that you don’t see in the final shot.
Normally I photography newborn photography sessions in your home. I bring everything needed for the session. I do however, use natural light. So finding the best room to photograph your newborn in is step one. During a session we do family and sibling shots first. Those can be taken in various rooms. But I like to make sure I have a good naturally lit area to do the newborn photos. I like to pull out 3-4 different “sets” which consist of hats/headbands, wraps and blankets. I then go from there and get different poses and angles.
Newborn sessions can last 1.5 – 3 hours. It just depends on the baby. It is best to photograph newborns when they are sleeping. Sometimes I just sit there and wait because I know they are going to give me a little smile or grin!
Newborn photography is one of my favorites. I love having time to squeeze and snuggle on little babies and then watching them grow up from month to month, milestone to milestone.
